Objectives:

-practical: to present and expand the vocabulary related to the topic; to activate pupils’ reading, writing, listening skills;

-educational: to boarden pupils’ knowledge about the wild animals and their parts of body;

- developing: to develop pupils’ logical thinking, attention, memory;

- training: to bring up communicative skills, respect to the wild nature.

Procedure

  1. Introduction

Announcing the Topic

T: Let’s start our lesson. Today we are going to visit wild animals in the zoo. Some of them are already familiar to you, as we learned them the previous year.   Also we are going to get acquainted with new animals you haven’t known before and their parts of body.

So, our task is to learn new words, to practice in listening to the poem about an elephant, reading the text, writing the exercises and talking about your favourite wild animals.

  1. Warming up

Game “An Interview’’

T: We are going to prepare for speaking English. Let’s revise the phrases we’ve learned before and play a game An Interview’’. Who wants to be a journalist? Please, ask the questions to some pupils.

P1: What’s your name?                                  P2: My name’s …

P1: How old are you?                                     P3: I’m seven (eight) years old.

P1: How are you?                                           P4: I’m fine, thank you.                      

P1: Where do you live?                                  P5: I live in Ternopil.                             

P1: Have you got a brother or a sister?          P6: I’ve got a sister/ I’ve got a brother.                                                     

P1: Can you jump (run, swim, read …)?     P7: Yes. I can/ No, I can’t.

  1. Vocabulary Revision

T: The topic of our lesson is “In the Zoo” and you know some animals. Look at the screen and repeat them all together: a lion, a tiger, an elephant, a giraffe, a kangaroo, a monkey, a snake, a zebra, a hippo etc.

T: Let’s play a game “Guess the animal” (the teacher or pupils describe the wild animals and others guess what it is):

A: It can walk. It can climb. It has got a short tail and four legs. It is brown. What animal is it?

B: Is it a bear?

A: Yes, it is. It is a bear.

  1. Poem Recitation.

An elephant goes like this and that:

He’s terribly big and he’s terribly fat.

He has no fingers, and he has no toes,

But goodness gracious, what a nose!

  1. Reading

T: Today we are in the zoo. So let’s read some information about the animals you can meet in the zoo. Be very attentive.

Reading comprehension

In the zoo

We are in the zoo. Look, this is an elephant. It has got a big nose and big ears. It is very old. And that is a bear. It is very strong.

The tiger is red and black. It can run and jump well. It is angry. Look on the left. These are monkeys. I like monkeys. They are funny.

T: Match the underlined words in the text with their opposites in the box:

Task 2

T: True or false. I’ll read you the sentences, if the statement is true – clap your hands, if not – keep silence.

              We are in the shop.

              Look, this is a horse.

              The elephant has got a big nose and big ears.

              The bear is very strong.

              The tiger can fly.

              The monkeys are on the left.

 

  1. Vocabulary Presentation

T: Our next task is to get acquainted with some new words. We are going to learn the parts of the body of wild animals we’ve met today. Let’s do it in the following way – you have to match the names of animals with their individual parts of body, using the structure has got:

A tiger                                                                          a long neck              

A kangaroo                                                                  stripes

An elephant                                has got                      a mane                

A lion                                                                           a pouch

A giraffe                                                                       a shell

A turtle                                                                         a trunk

 

5. Oral practice

T: Now close your eyes and listen to the sounds of different animals and tell me: What is yor favourite wild animals?

 

P1: My favourite animal is a monkey.

P2: My favourite animal is a lion.

P3: My favourite animal is a tiger.

P4: My favourite animal is a giraffe.

P5: My favourite animal is a wolf.

P6: My favourite animal is a crocodile.

 

  1. Home assignment

T: Your home assignment for the next lesson is to prepare the project about your favourite animals you have seen in the zoo.
